Getting The Most Out Of Your Dance Lessons

When you start a new diet or workout regimen, you don't expect results after the first day. If 15 minutes of sit-ups and a salad for lunch resulted in six pack abs, that would be awesome, however results take time.

Becoming a great dancer is also going to take time. Along with some patience for the process, here are the things you'll need to get the most out of your dance lessons:

Dedication

Dedicate yourself to the dance learning process. Practice at home, drill things you feel you can do better, ask the choreographer for tips, find a friend to review with, etc. As Timothy Weah put it, "With hard work and dedication, anything is possible."

A Chill Pill

Take a deep breath and let yourself relax. Don't forget that the best part is having fun! Let the studio be your safe place, somewhere you can feel free to be you. Dance is fun! Charles Barkley once said, "The main thing to do is relax and let your talent do the work."

Nerve

Show nerve. Be brave. Exude confidence. Don't be afraid to give it your all, because making mistakes is how we learn to get better. Knowing what didn't work gets you that much closer to what will. After all, as Helen Keller so gracefully put, "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence."

Concentration

Concentrate in class. Watch the instructor dance. Listen to the rhythm of the music. Hone in on the instructor's execution of each move and feel how the rhythm corresponds to each step. Paulo Coelho gets it; he said, "Music for me, it demands full concentration."

Enthusiasm

Lastly, you have to be enthusiastic. Participate in class. Give it your all. Practice on your own at home. Be willing to volunteer at the front of the class. Have fun! According to Arthur Balfour "Enthusiasm moves the world". Let it move you too!

So, if you want the most out of your dance lessons, you have to D.A.N.C.E. and remember that results take time. Give yourself the time to watch them happen.
