Ducks in a Row

You are in love.  Wedding plans are in the works.  You have the venue....check.  Caterer....check.  Photographer....check.  Cake....check.  Amazing dress....check.  Dance lessons...Say what?  Your wedding is going to be spectacular, so don't you think your first dance as Mr. and Mrs. should be just as awesome?

First Dance

The first dance as a married couple is highly anticipated by everyone who attends your special day.  You are in a way saying, "Okay, the party starts now!"  And you know that all those iPhones are going to be recording your every move, so you had better look good, huh?  It is really the first time that you will face the world, as one, with unity and harmony.

There is quite a bit of tradition behind the first wedding dance.  Some believe that when the bride accepts the dance with her groom, she is agreeing to share the rest of her life with him.  Gracefully.  Lovingly.  Forever.

Another belief is, not only does this first dance symbolize the marriage of the newlywed couple, but it also represents the union of two families.  So if you want to impress your new mother-in-law, you want to make this dance memorable.  She will be replaying the video for years to come.

With the first dance, the bride and groom are making a statement of unending love and harmony.  Their steps are in unison.  Their bodies move as one.  This is how love should be.  But don't let the fear of imperfection stand in your way.  So maybe you have never waltzed before.  That's okay.  A good marriage is about learning, recovering from mistakes, working out the missteps.   Learning to dance can bring you even closer together.  Dancing isn't brain surgery, right?  It is fun!
