Just Dance, Gonna Be Okay

Happy family dancing in the living room during the COVID-19 corona virus epidemic

Just Dance

Sometimes reality is overwhelming, and we just need to escape everything that is too much to handle: climate change, political turmoil, not to mention the most recent global health epidemic. For many of us, dance is a great way to have fun and to feel refreshed for life. We encourage you to keep dancing during stressful times for the mental and physical balance it gives... or if you haven't embraced dance yet, give it a shot now! Why not?? Dance is usually a social, in-person activity but with health concerns on the rise, here are a few ideas to help keep you grooving in a safe and fun way.

1. Research & Self-Teach

Find a video online you like, and try to figure out the combination on your own! It'll be a great workout for your brain and your body. Even if you don't manage to get it completely right, you can modify steps to have a unique combination styled to your own way of moving. When you return to normal lessons, show off your creativity, or ask your teacher to break down the original steps for you!

2. Virtual Lessons

Giving up your hobbies and passions is a surefire path to boredom, so don't! Instead, consider taking virtual lessons where a teacher can personally instruct you through a screen. It'll be a good mental challenge to change the way you learn but in the comfort of your own home. If taking lessons with a partner, please make sure to make careful choices for the health of yourself, your partner, and your surrounding community. If you don't have a dance partner at home, learn a solo shine so you can impress them all when you're back on the dance floor!

Keep moving that body, and as Lady Gaga sings: Just dance, [we're] gonna be okay!
