Going into a dance studio for the first time and learning something new can be daunting for anyone. For adult dancers, it can be especially nerve-wracking. Maybe, you never had the time to take ballroom but now you're wondering if it's too late now. Did you miss your chance to enjoy dancing? There is a common myth that you have to start dancing at a certain age or else you're going to miss the narrow 'window of opportunity' to enjoy it. The good news is that nothing is further from the truth- dance is for everyone at any age, at any stage in life.

Take a Deep Breath

You're not alone. Many adults are now taking up ballroom dancing even well into retirement age so you won't be the only one in your class. Everyone in class is there to learn and no one is going to be perfect. You're going to mess up but that's part of the fun. Instead of comparing to the other students, let yourself get immersed in the experience of learning something new, mistakes and all. You'll find that those self-conscious thoughts will quiet down and you'll be eager to come back for the next class.

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

You may have put off dance lessons because you were worried about pushing yourself. Learning to dance can be a difficult challenge mentally and physically, especially for adults. But pushing yourself out of your comfort zone can have many positive effects on your life- you'll be able to be proud that you have done something new and exciting. Dance also comes with a myriad of mental and physical health benefits for dancers of any age. It's a great way to stay motivated to get in shape!

and most importantly:
